Before Your First Visit to Turney Center: What to Bring, What to Leave in the Car
Bring a valid photo ID - you'll need it to check in and get cleared for your visit. Turney Center only allows a few personal items into the visitation area, and your ID is one of them.
You can only bring two things into the visitation area: your photo ID and your car keys (or key fob). Leave everything else locked in your vehicle - phones, smart watches, wallets, all of it. Planning to use the vending machines? Handle that before you head in. Vending machine debit cards have to be purchased or reloaded in the lobby before entering the visitation area.
- ✓ Firearms or weapons
- ✓ Drugs
- ✓ Alcohol
- ✓ Smoking or vaping of any kind (not allowed on state property)
Note: Vehicle searches may routinely be conducted on facility property. Keep anything you’re leaving behind secured and locked.
If you’re bringing a baby, a small set of essentials is allowed as needed - diapers, formula powder, and unopened sealed baby food. Pack those items in a clear plastic bag so they’re easy to inspect during screening.
Check-in is thorough. Every visitor passes through multiple security screenings, including a body scanner, before entering the visitation area. The less you bring, the faster you'll get through - stick to your ID and keys, and leave everything else in your vehicle.
