What items can get you in legal trouble when visiting an Idaho prison (including TFCRC)
Visiting someone at an Idaho correctional facility—especially the Twin Falls Community Reentry Center (TFCRC)—means taking contraband rules seriously. Idaho Code 18-2510 makes it a crime to knowingly bring contraband into a correctional facility or possess it there. Staff can search you and anything you're carrying before you enter the visiting area.
Idaho Code 18-2510 covers contraband in correctional facilities. At TFCRC, knowingly bringing contraband in - or even having it on you inside the facility - is a crime. This applies to items you try to carry in and anything in your possession while entering or inside the visiting area.
- ✓ Tobacco
- ✓ Cell phones or other telecommunication equipment
- ✓ Controlled or illegal substances
- ✓ Firearms or other dangerous weapons
- ✓ Ammunition or explosives
- ✓ Escape tools or devices
Note: This isn't a complete list. Idaho Code 18-2510 can cover other items treated as contraband in a correctional facility.
TFCRC staff can search any visitor or item entering the visiting area to enforce Idaho Code 18-2510. That means everything you bring - your pockets, your bag, items you carry up to the entrance - can be checked.
Note: Searches are routine. Plan for them, stay calm, and cooperate so your visit goes smoothly.
The consequences are serious. Under Idaho Code 18-2510, contraband violations at TFCRC can mean up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
Note: Since this is a criminal offense under Idaho Code 18-2510, the consequences go beyond just being turned away from your visit.

Never try to pass anything to a resident during your visit. If an item counts as contraband, "introducing" it into the facility - or even knowingly having it on you - can trigger Idaho Code 18-2510. The potential penalty: up to five years in prison and/or a fine up to $10,000.
If you're unsure: Ask staff before entering the visiting area. They can search anything you're carrying anyway - better to clarify upfront than risk a serious problem.
