Starting June 1, 2025, adults 18 and older can register online for visitation at Tyger River Correctional Facility - if you have a valid South Carolina driver's license. Got one? The online option is usually the fastest way to submit your application.

How to Register for Visitation at Tyger River Correctional Facility (SC) — Online vs. Paper

Not everyone can use the online option. SCDC still accepts paper applications in several common situations: no South Carolina driver's license, ID or computer-access issues, or applying for a child. Plenty of people fall into one of these categories - especially out-of-state family members and first-time visitors.

  • ✓ You’re an adult without an ID or driver’s license (for example, you use a passport or U.S. visa).
  • ✓ You’re an adult with an out-of-state driver’s license.
  • ✓ You’re an adult who has technical difficulties using a computer or you don’t have access to a computer.
  • ✓ You’re submitting an application for a minor child (paper application required, with documentation to verify the relationship).

Note: Minor children must apply through the paper process. You'll also need to include documentation verifying the child's relationship to the incarcerated person.

Mail your paper application to: Division of Visitation and I/M DT, P.O. Box 212969, Columbia, SC 29221-2969.

  • ✓ Print and fill out the form clearly so it’s easy to read.
  • ✓ If the application is for a minor, include the documentation needed to verify the relationship.
  • ✓ If you’re using paper because you don’t have a driver’s license (for example, you use a passport or U.S. visa), include the appropriate ID documentation.
  • ✓ Keep a copy of everything you mail for your records.

Submitting an application is just the first step. You'll also need to be on the incarcerated person's approved visitation list before you can schedule a visit - the scheduler won't let you book a time otherwise.

  1. Confirm you’re on the approved visitation list - you have to be approved before you can schedule anything.
  2. Register on the SCDC/GTL scheduling website - account registration is required to use the scheduler.
  3. Schedule your visit through the SCDC/GTL scheduler - this is where you book the date and time for your visit (the same system is used for virtual visits).

Note: All visits - including virtual ones - must be scheduled through the SCDC/GTL scheduler. You'll need to register on the GTL scheduling site first.
