Virtual visits at Tyger River cost a flat $10 for a 50-minute session. Plan for the full charge even if you do not use the entire time.

There's a specific window for scheduling: at least three days in advance, but no more than seven days ahead. If you're coordinating around work or kids' schedules, pick a few backup time options within that 3 to 7 day range.

Need to adjust an upcoming visit? You can modify it up to two days before the scheduled date. The sooner you try, the better your chances of finding another time that works.

Can't make it? You can cancel up to one day in advance. After that, treat the appointment as locked in and plan around it.

Keep your group small. A maximum of four approved visitors may participate in a single virtual visit, total.

Kids can join, but two rules apply. Approved minors may only participate when accompanied by an approved adult, and they count toward the four-person limit. If you're including multiple children, count everyone who will be on screen so you don't accidentally go over.

Be ready to prove who's participating. The visitation coordinator will ask for photo ID from approved visitors age 10 and older, so have it handy before you log on.

For kids under 10, the ID requirement is different. They need a certified long-form birth certificate as identification for the virtual visit.

Note: SCDC Form 19-118 (Authorization for Adult Supervision of a Minor) is not required to participate in a virtual visit if you are not the parent or legal guardian.

Treat your virtual visit like an appointment that starts on time. Be in front of your device 15 minutes early so you can get settled and avoid last-second issues.

Where you take the call matters. Bedrooms and bathrooms are off-limits for virtual visits. Pick a neutral, public-facing spot in your home where you can sit still and keep the camera steady.

Recorded visit: Virtual visits are recorded and subject to review for appropriateness.

Since the session is recorded and reviewed, keep everything on camera appropriate for a jail visit. That includes who's present, what's visible in the background, and what happens during the call.

If something inappropriate happens during a virtual visit, the call ends immediately. Even if you just started.

Rule-breaking can also affect you after the call. Visitors who engage in prohibited conduct may be suspended or permanently banned from virtual visitation privileges.

The incarcerated person can face consequences too. Anyone who violates virtual visitation rules is subject to disciplinary action under SCDC Policy OP-22.14 (Inmate Disciplinary System).
