How to Send Money to an Inmate at USP Lewisburg (MoneyGram + Where Not to Mail Funds)
Sending money to someone at USP Lewisburg is straightforward once you use the right destination and enter the inmate's details correctly. The biggest mistake people make? Mailing funds to the prison address instead of the Bureau of Prisons processing center.
Important: Do NOT send money to USP Lewisburg's facility address. All mailed funds must go to a processing center in Des Moines, Iowa.
This is the most common mistake. For USP Lewisburg (and every federal inmate), mailed funds go through the Des Moines, Iowa processing center, not the prison itself. Double-check the destination before you send anything so your money doesn't end up in the wrong place.
For MoneyGram ExpressPayment, the account number follows a specific format: the inmate's eight-digit register number (no spaces or dashes) followed immediately by their last name. So it looks like this: 12345678DOE.
Note: Enter the account number exactly as required. Spaces, dashes, or a misspelled last name can cause problems. Verify the eight-digit register number and last name before you hit submit.
MoneyGram requires a Bureau of Prisons receive code. The code is always 7932. In the beneficiary field, enter the inmate's full committed name (their name as it appears in BOP records).
If your loved one needs commissary funds quickly, timing matters. Funds sent by MoneyGram between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. EST post to the inmate's account within 2 to 4 hours. Send after 9:00 p.m. EST and the money won't post that night. Those transactions go through at 7:00 a.m. EST the following morning.
Tip: Need the money to show up the same day? Send it during the 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST window.
Sending through MoneyGram online? You'll still need to enter Receive Code 7932. The site caps each transaction at $300.
First time using the MoneyGram website? You'll need to create a profile and account before sending funds. Online payment requires a MasterCard or Visa credit card.
