Who Can Visit Someone at USP Lewisburg: Guest Eligibility, Group Size, Minors, and Attorney Visits
Visiting rules can feel like a moving target, especially your first time planning a trip. Here's what you need to know about who can visit at USP Lewisburg, how many people can come at once, how visits with minors work, and what to expect for attorney visits.
Incarcerated people at USP Lewisburg are limited to five social visits per month. If you're coordinating with other family members or friends, that monthly cap is the big constraint to plan around. You don't want the person you're visiting to run out of visits before the month is over.
Good to know: Attorney and parole representative visits don't count toward the five monthly social visits.
Where the visit happens depends on the person's assignment. USP inmates visit in the USP Visiting Room, while Camp and RDAP inmates visit in the Camp Visiting Room.
Only a limited number of visitors can be in the visiting room at one time. Larger families often need to plan ahead and rotate who attends each visit to stay within the allowed group size for the USP or Camp.
Visitors under 18 can only visit if they're accompanied by a legal guardian or an immediate family member who is over 18. If you're bringing a child, make sure the adult with them meets that requirement. Otherwise, the visit can be denied.
At the USP, visiting groups are capped at five people at one time, and that count includes children. Show up with more than five? Expect to split up and take turns.
At the Camp (LEC), the limit is smaller. No more than four people, including children, may visit at one time.
SMU visits: Inmates in SMU Phases 1 and 2 receive video visitation instead of in-person visits.
Attorney visits at the Penitentiary are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Keep those weekday hours in mind when planning travel and case prep.
- Make an appointment with Unit Management Staff - Attorneys should normally schedule an appointment prior to each visit.
Monthly-limit exception: Attorney and parole representative visits don't count toward the facility's five monthly social visits.
If you're being considered for visiting privileges, you may be asked to complete the BP-A0629 visitor questionnaire. The form states that providing the requested information is voluntary. However, if you don't fill it out, your request will be suspended and you won't receive any further consideration.
Warning: BP-A0629 states that making false statements can carry criminal penalties under 18 U.S.C. §1001, including a fine up to $250,000 or imprisonment up to five years.
