Visitation

What You Can and Can't Bring When Visiting Someone at USP Pollock

A lot of visits go sideways at the front entrance because of something in a pocket or a dress-code issue. Here's what USP Pollock (and the Bureau of Prisons) expects so you don't get turned away.

By entering or even attempting to enter USP Pollock (Bureau of Prisons) grounds, you're consenting to a search. That covers you and anything you bring onto the property. Refuse, and staff can turn you away from Bureau grounds entirely. Your visit is over for the day.

Note: If you're not comfortable being searched, don't go onto Bureau grounds. Refusing the search can end your visit before it starts.

Prohibited List

  • Weapons
  • Explosives
  • Drugs or intoxicants
  • Currency
  • Cameras (any type)
  • Recording equipment
  • Telephones (any type)
  • Radios
  • Pagers
  • Electronic devices

The Bureau bans certain objects from its grounds because they threaten safety, security, and orderly operations. Bringing a prohibited item onto the property, even unintentionally, can create a security issue and keep you out of the visiting area.

Warning: Do not bring prohibited objects onto Bureau grounds. Having them on you can get you denied entry.

If you're carrying medications when you visit USP Pollock, you'll need to list every type on the BP-A0224 form. All medications must be left at the entry area. Plan for this before you arrive so you're not scrambling to figure it out during check-in.

Tip: Before you arrive, write out a clear list of any medication you're carrying. That way you can fill out the BP-A0224 quickly and leave everything at the entry area as required.

What you wear matters. The Bureau's standard is straightforward: dress like you're going to a large public gathering with men, women, and children present. If staff consider your outfit inappropriate, especially if it's provocative or revealing, you can be denied visitation. Not sure what counts as "revealing"? Use the Bureau's own examples as a guide. Items that are generally not permitted include see-through garments, crop tops, low-cut tops, very short shorts or skirts, and other clothing that draws attention to private areas.

Tip: When in doubt, dress more conservatively than you think you need to. Being comfortable in the visiting room beats getting sent away at the door.

Quick Checklist

  • Expect to be searched when you enter Bureau grounds, refusing a search can mean you cannot enter.
  • Leave prohibited objects off Bureau grounds (including cameras, phones, recording devices, electronic devices, weapons, drugs, explosives, and currency).
  • If you bring medication, list it on the BP-A0224 form and be ready to leave it at the entry area.
  • Dress for a large mixed public gathering, revealing or provocative clothing can get you denied.
