What You Can't Bring to USP Pollock: A Visitor's Checklist
Heading to USP Pollock for a visit? The easiest way to avoid trouble at the door is to show up with as little as possible. Here's what you can't bring, what you'll need to declare, and how the Bureau handles searches on facility grounds.
When you enter (or even attempt to enter) Bureau of Prisons grounds or facilities, you’re consenting to be searched. If you refuse a search, you may be prohibited from entering. Plan for screening to be part of the visit, and keep what you carry to an absolute minimum so you don’t get delayed or turned away.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Weapons
- ✓ Explosives and ammunition
- ✓ Illegal drugs and intoxicants (including marijuana and narcotics)
- ✓ Cameras of any type and recording equipment
- ✓ Telephones (any type), radios, pagers, and other electronic devices
You'll fill out a BP-A0224 form at check-in. It asks whether you - or any children under 16 in your group - are carrying prohibited items like tobacco products, narcotics, explosives, weapons, cameras, recording equipment, or phones and electronics. Medications get special treatment. You'll need to list every medication you're carrying on the form, and all of them stay at the entry area during your visit. If you usually keep prescriptions in your bag or pocket just in case, plan for this ahead of time so it doesn't catch you off guard.
- List every medication you have with you - all types of medication carried must be written on the BP-A0224 form.
- Declare them at entry - don’t try to keep medications on you during the visit.
- Leave them at the entry area - medications you brought must be left where staff instruct you to leave them.
Before you make the trip, confirm you're actually eligible to visit. You can only see an inmate if they've placed you on their approved visiting list and the Bureau of Prisons has cleared you. Without that approval, you'll be turned away - no matter how far you've traveled.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Assume you’ll be searched when you enter Bureau grounds; refusing a search can keep you from getting in.
- ✓ Do a last check of pockets, bags, and your car before you head to the entrance: weapons, drugs/intoxicants, cameras/recorders, and phones/electronics are prohibited.
- ✓ If you’re carrying any medication, list all of it on the BP-A0224 form and be ready to leave it at the entry area.
- ✓ If you’re bringing kids, remember the questions on the form also apply to children in your party under 16.
- ✓ Plan your own transportation. There’s no government payment or reimbursement for travel to the facility.
- ✓ If you’re unsure about directions or logistics, call the facility for help before you leave.
Warning: Don’t bring weapons onto Bureau grounds. And don’t gamble on refusing a search - refusal may prohibit you from entering.
