Video Visits at VCFW: Cost, Scheduling, and What to Expect
Video visits at VCFW help you stay connected—if you plan ahead. Here's what to know about pricing, log-in windows, and the rules that can get a visit cut short or your privileges suspended.
VCFW offers video visits in two settings: from home using your own internet connection, or from an AFOI Visitor Center if you don't have the right setup. For at-home visits, you can use a home computer, tablet, or Android smartphone. iPhones and iPads won't work for the actual video call - you can use them to schedule, but you'll need a different device when it's time to connect.
Plan your group ahead of time. Video visits allow up to five people total, including children. If minors are joining, at least one visitor must be 18 or older and be the child's parent or legal guardian.
Don't wait until the last minute to get set up. You must be logged into the GTL system 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
Using an AFOI Visitor Center? Build in extra time. You're required to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled video visit.
AFOI/Viapath video visits currently cost $0.15 per minute. You can book 20 minutes for $3.00 or 50 minutes for $7.50 - straightforward pricing so you know the total upfront.
Rates drop on July 1, 2025 to $0.12 per minute. At that price, 20 minutes runs $2.40 and 50 minutes costs $6.00.
Note: The $0.15/minute pricing applies now, and the $0.12/minute pricing starts July 1, 2025 - make sure you’re looking at the rate that matches the date you’re booking.
Rules Dress Ban
- ✓ Record or film the video visit
- ✓ Take pictures of the incarcerated person during the visit
- ✓ Take screenshots of the incarcerated person during the visit
Dress like you would for an in-person visit - staff can end the session if you don't meet the standard. Clothing must cover from the neck to the kneecaps, and all visitors are required to wear underwear.
Warning: If you violate the video visitation rules, you can receive - at minimum - a 12-month ban from video visitation privileges.
Treat your appointment time as fixed. Video visits run only for the exact scheduled slot, and fees aren't refunded if you arrive late or miss the visit. If you're cutting it close, reschedule - paying for time you can't use isn't worth it.
