Your Checklist Before Visiting Valdosta State Prison for the First Time

You have to be approved before you can visit. Start by filling out the Visitation Request Form and submitting it to the facility where your loved one is incarcerated. Until you're on the approved list, you won't be able to schedule anything.

Once approved, you'll request your visit through the state's scheduled-visit form. Don't wait until the day before - build in some buffer time. After submitting, confirm your booking in the system. You don't want to make the trip only to find out your visit wasn't actually scheduled.

Make sure you're planning for the right visitation type. General population visitation at Valdosta State Prison runs Saturdays, Sundays, and State Holidays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If you're aiming for a weekend or holiday visit, those are your hours.

Tier visitation follows a different schedule - and you can't just show up. Tier visits are Mondays and Wednesdays (excluding State Holidays) from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and visitors must schedule at least 24 hours in advance. Before taking off work or making the drive, double-check that you're booking the correct day and time.

Weekend visits have a hard deadline. You must request weekend visitation by 5:00 PM on Wednesday of the same week. Planning to visit Saturday or Sunday? Get your request in before Wednesday evening.

State Holidays have their own cutoff, and it comes up fast - 5:00 PM three days before the holiday. If you're planning around a holiday weekend, submit your request early so you don't get locked out.

  2. Turn right onto Highway 133 - stay on Hwy 133 after the exit.
  3. Take the first street on the right - Valdosta State Prison is just past the Annex on the left.
