For most families, visitation at Valdosta State Prison means weekends. General population visits happen on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. But there's also a weekday option that works differently. Tier visitation runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and it requires advance scheduling. The main differences? The day of the week, the time window, and how far ahead you need to plan.

General population visitation runs on the weekend schedule. You can visit on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and the same hours apply on Sunday (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM).

Tier visitation follows a weekday schedule: Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. One thing to keep in mind: Tier visitation doesn't happen on state holidays. If you're planning a visit during a holiday week, make sure your chosen day still falls on a regular Monday or Wednesday.

Note: General population visits are Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Tier visits are Monday and Wednesday, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Planning a weekend visit? Don't wait until the last minute. The deadline to request weekend visitation at Valdosta State Prison is 5:00 PM on Wednesday of that same week. Miss it, and you're looking at the following weekend.

Holiday weeks have their own timing. The cutoff to request visitation for state holidays is 5:00 PM three days before the holiday. Remember: Tier visitation doesn't happen on state holidays. A holiday visitation request won't create a Tier visit option for that day.

Tier visits aren't a "show up and hope" situation. You need to schedule at least 24 hours in advance, and visits only happen on Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. If weekdays work better for your job or childcare, Tier visitation might be a good fit. Just stay on top of that 24-hour scheduling requirement.

Weekend general population visits make sense if your weekdays are packed, or if you're coordinating with family members who can only travel on Saturday or Sunday. The weekend hours also give you more flexibility to build in drive time. Weekday Tier visits work well if weekends are your busiest time, or if you prefer visiting during typical business hours. The tradeoff is planning. You'll need to stay ahead of deadlines and scheduling, especially during holiday weeks.
