Van Zandt County Jail Mail Rules: The 5-Page Limit and What Gets Returned
Getting mail returned is frustrating, especially when you're just trying to send a simple letter. Use the checklist below to make sure your mailing follows Van Zandt County Jail's rules so it gets scanned and delivered, not sent back.
Preflight
- ✓ Keep it to 5 pages or less total. Anything over 5 pages will not be scanned and will be returned to sender.
- ✓ Put the inmate’s name, the Sheriff’s Office booking number, and your return address on the envelope and mail.
- ✓ Use standard letter-size pages only (8.5 inches x 11 inches). Anything outside that size will not be accepted for processing via the PO Box.
- ✓ Include no more than 1 photo per mailing. If you send more than 1 photo, the entire letter and everything in it will be returned, and nothing will be delivered.
Note: Mail is scanned front-side only. Do not write on the back of any page, or your message may not make it through.
Van Zandt County Jail caps inmate mail at 5 pages. Send 6 or more, and the extra pages won't be scanned. They'll be returned to you.
Use standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Oversized mail won't be accepted through the PO Box, so even a well-written letter can get rejected if it's the wrong size.
You can include 1 photo per mailing. More than one, and the jail returns the entire letter (plus all contents) to sender. Nothing gets scanned or delivered to the inmate.
The jail scans mail front-side only. Anything written on the back of a page won't be scanned or delivered. Keep all your writing on one side of each sheet and leave the back blank.
Don't send racy or pornographic images. This type of content is listed as prohibited material and will stop your mailing from being accepted.
- ✓ Magazines
- ✓ Newspapers
- ✓ Bulk mail
- ✓ Books
The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office says there are no exceptions to these mail guidelines. If your mailing breaks the rules, expect the same outcome every time.
The most common reasons mail gets returned: going over 5 pages, including more than 1 photo, or sending items the PO Box doesn't accept (magazines, newspapers, bulk mail, or books). In each case, the mailing goes back to the sender instead of being delivered.
