How to Visit Facility

You cannot hand-deliver correspondence, printed material, personal property, or money to an inmate during a visit. Staff won't pass those items along, either. If you need to send something, use the facility's approved channels instead.

Mail gets tricky if your loved one is transferred or released. Approved mail and packages addressed to someone who has been moved to another known address should be forwarded within 48 hours. That 48-hour clock doesn't include weekends or holidays, so expect delays around those days.

Note: This article only covers what we can confirm about visitor deliveries and mail forwarding. Visiting schedules, ID requirements, dress codes, and other procedures can change. Verify current rules with the facility before you go.

Steps to Follow

  • Do not bring correspondence, printed materials, property, or money expecting to hand it to an inmate during your visit.
  • If you are sending approved mail or packages and the inmate is transferred or released to another known address, expect forwarding to take up to 48 hours (not counting weekends and holidays).

What to Verify

  • Whether there are any exceptions to the rule that visitors cannot deliver correspondence, printed material, personal property, or money to inmates.
  • What the facility considers “approved” mail and “approved” packages for forwarding purposes.
  • How the 48-hour forwarding timeline is calculated, including confirmation that weekends and holidays are excluded.
  • The best official place to confirm current policies before you visit (for example, the facility’s official policy materials or their main contact channel).

Timing tip: Weekends and holidays don't count toward the 48-hour forwarding window. If mail arrives right before or during those days, ask the facility how they handle the delay.
