How to Visit Facility
Visiting someone in custody takes a little planning, especially the first time. Reserve your visit ahead of time, then double-check the schedule details before you go.
To schedule an in-person social visit, call (619) 409-5000. Have the person's name ready before you dial. You'll want to call before heading out, since showing up without a reservation can mean getting turned away.
Schedule check: The facility's guidance is a bit contradictory. One source says you can call Wednesday through Sunday from 6:30am to 6:00pm to reserve visits, but another says there are no visits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. When you call, confirm the current visiting days and the best time to reserve.
Visits are scheduled in 30-minute increments. That time goes fast, so come prepared and plan your day around a short visit window.
Keep your group size small. A maximum of three visitors (including children) are allowed per visit, and minors must be with a parent, a court-appointed guardian, or another adult who has legal custody. Anyone 18 or older needs valid identification for check-in.
Prefer a video visit? You'll need to plan ahead. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance through SmartInmate/Smart Communications, and you'll have to create an account before you can schedule.

- ✓ Call (619) 409-5000 to reserve an in-person social visit
- ✓ Try calling Wednesday through Sunday between 6:30am and 6:00pm
- ✓ While you’re on the phone, confirm which days visits are actually offered (the facility also states there are no visits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays)
- ✓ Pick an available 30-minute slot (visits are scheduled in 30-minute increments)
- ✓ Keep your party to three visitors total, children count toward the limit
- ✓ If you are 18 or older, bring valid ID for check-in
- ✓ If you bring a minor, make sure they are accompanied by a parent, court-appointed guardian, or another adult with legal custody
- ✓ Create your SmartInmate/Smart Communications account before you try to book
- ✓ Schedule the video visit at least one day in advance
The biggest thing to verify is the schedule. The facility lists call-in reservation hours as Wednesday through Sunday, 6:30am to 6:00pm, but also states there are no visits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Call (619) 409-5000 and ask the staff member who answers to confirm the current visiting days before you make plans.
Reconfirm the basics for your specific visit, too. Visits are booked in 30-minute increments, only three visitors are allowed per visit (including children), and minors must be accompanied by the right adult. If you're 18 or older, bring valid ID so check-in doesn't hold up your visit.
For video visits, verify the booking steps in the SmartInmate/Smart Communications system before the day you want to visit. Reservations must be made one day in advance, and you'll need to create an account first.
