Putting Money on an Inmate's Account, Commissary, and Fees at Volusia County
Knowing what gets deducted automatically—and what your deposit actually covers—makes a real difference when you're trying to keep money available for commissary and basic needs at Volusia County Corrections.
Volusia County charges a one-time $30.00 booking fee each time someone is booked. That fee is deducted from the inmate’s account.
On top of that, there's a $5.00 per day subsistence fee. It also comes out of the inmate's account - so a balance that looks fine at first can shrink fast.
Note: If an inmate is eligible and chooses to work while incarcerated, the $5.00/day subsistence fee is waived. If they’re acquitted, they may request a refund of subsistence fees.
At booking, any money the person has on them is collected and placed into a personal inmate banking account. Those funds cover booking and subsistence fees, commissary purchases, copies, medical visits, prescriptions, and any debts from previous unpaid incarceration stays.
