Bring a valid photo ID to check in. Not sure if yours qualifies? Check the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) list of acceptable photo identifications before you leave home. Wrong or missing ID is one of the most common reasons visits get delayed.

Before you drive out: Make sure you're on the approved visitor list for the person you're seeing. If you're not certain, call the unit to confirm before making the trip.

  • Bring coins only if you need money during the visit (no more than $35 total); don’t bring cash.
  • Leave your cell phone outside the secure perimeter - don’t bring it in with you.

Visiting hours at the W. F. Ramsey Unit are Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Still, call ahead before you go - schedules change, and visitation can get canceled without much notice. Give yourself extra time for check-in and screening so you're not rushing.

Choose your outfit with TDCJ clothing guidelines in mind. If what you're wearing doesn't meet the rules, you'll be turned away - no exceptions. Take a minute to double-check before you leave.

Heads up: Staff can search both your vehicle and your person. Keep your car and pockets clear of anything you wouldn't want found.
