Who can visit your loved one? The 10-name visitor list rule (W. F. Ramsey Unit)
Want to visit someone at the W. F. Ramsey Unit? It all starts with their approved Visitors List. Here's how the 10-name limit works, how often it can change, and what to do if you're not on it yet.
Each incarcerated person at the W. F. Ramsey Unit can have up to 10 names on their Visitors List. This is the official roster of people they're allowed to see during visiting hours. If your name isn't on it, you won't get in - no matter how far you traveled or how long you've known them.
Being on the list matters beyond visits. Since September 1, 2020, only people on the approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List can deposit money for an incarcerated person. This affects commissary and other needs. Planning to help financially? Make sure your name is approved on one of those lists first.
Here's what catches most families off guard: the Visitors List can only be changed at set intervals. Adding or removing names counts as a change. For institutional inmates, that's once every six months. For state jail, Intermediate Sanction Facility (ISF), and Substance Abuse Felony Punishment (SAFP) inmates, it's once every 60 days. Miss the window, and you may have to wait until the next one before your name can be added.
Your loved one manages their own Visitors List - staff won't add people just because you ask. Not sure if you're already approved? Call the unit to confirm your status before making travel plans.

- ✓ Ask your loved one whether they can remove someone and swap your name in (the list can only hold 10 names).
- ✓ Call the unit to confirm whether you’re already on the approved Visitors List before you plan a trip.
- ✓ If the list is full or they just made a change, plan around the waiting period: changes are allowed once every six months for institutional inmates, or once every 60 days for state jail/ISF/SAFP inmates.
