Wake County Detention enforces visitor dress regulations at check-in. Shirts and shoes are required - no exceptions. Pick something simple and compliant before you leave home to avoid any issues at the door.

Prohibited Tops See Through

  • Halter tops
  • Bare midriffs
  • Strapless tops
  • Tube tops
  • Body suits
  • Underwear-type t-shirts
  • Tank tops
  • Sleeveless shirts or dresses

Warning: Fishnet shirts - and any shirt or pants made with see-through fabric - are not allowed for any visitor (male or female).

Shorts are allowed, but only if they meet the facility’s Bermuda-length standard. In practice, that means your shorts can’t be more than three inches above the kneecap - anything shorter can get you turned away at the door.

Note: Spandex clothing is prohibited for visitors.

When in doubt, keep it simple. If you're questioning whether an outfit will pass, change into something more conservative. Losing your visit over a clothing choice isn't worth the risk.
