How to Qualify and Request a Special Visit at Wake County Detention (100+ Miles Away)

To qualify, you must live more than 100 miles from Raleigh. Not sure if you meet the distance requirement? Check before calling - you don't want to spend time scheduling something you're not eligible for.

Special visits are limited to one every 30 days per visitor. Plan your trip around that window, especially if you're coordinating with other family responsibilities.

Special visits last one hour and are scheduled at set times: 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Build your travel plans around one of those slots so you're not rushing.

No more than two visitors can be scheduled for a special visit. One of them must be the person who makes the arrangements - decide ahead of time who will handle the call.

How to Qualify and Request a Special Visit at Wake County Detention (100+ Miles Away)
  1. Confirm you’re eligible (100+ miles away) - special visits are reserved for visitors who live more than 100 miles from Raleigh.
  2. Choose who will schedule it - only one of the two visitors needs to call, but it must be one of the people who will actually attend.
  3. Call to make arrangements - contact 919-857-9103 to schedule the special visit.
  4. Call during the scheduling window - arrangements must be made between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on normal workdays, prior to the visit.
  5. Plan for weekday scheduling - the time frame for special visits is Monday through Friday.

Tip: Call during normal workdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and do it before your travel day so the visit can be scheduled properly.

Expect a non-contact visit. All special visits at Wake County Detention are conducted by video - you won't meet face-to-face or have physical contact. If you're bringing kids or other family members, set expectations ahead of time so no one is surprised.
