Walker County Jail Commissary: How to Order, When It Arrives, and How to Put Money on an Inmate's Account
Commissary at Walker County Jail runs on a weekly schedule with a firm Thursday night cutoff—and orders can't be changed or refunded once submitted. Here's how it all works.
Inmates place commissary orders through a kiosk in their cell block. That's where they browse items and submit their weekly order.
Want to help from the outside? Walker County Jail uses Legacy Commissary through jailatm.com. You can place commissary orders online and add money to an inmate's account for commissary or phone services.
Heads up: Once a commissary order is submitted, it can’t be changed, withdrawn, or refunded - even if the inmate leaves the jail before receiving it.
Orders must be saved in the system by 11:00 p.m. each Thursday. Miss that cutoff, and you'll have to wait until the following week.
Deliveries arrive Monday mornings, unless that Monday falls on a holiday.
Reminder: Double-check everything before the order is submitted - Walker County Jail does not allow changes or refunds after submission.
There's a $50.00 spending cap per order.
Inmates select items through the kiosk, and the order has to be something the system can process. The account also needs enough money to cover it - Walker County Jail doesn't extend credit, so orders won't go through without sufficient funds.
No credit: If there isn’t enough money in the inmate’s account, the commissary order will not be processed.
If your loved one has no funds, they may be able to request an indigent commissary kit. They do this by filling out a commissary request on the kiosk in their cell block.
The kit covers basics: hygiene items, writing materials, and postage stamps.
This isn't available every week. Inmates can only request an indigent kit once every four weeks.
Balance impact: When an indigent kit is provided, a negative balance is placed on the inmate’s account for future deposits.
To add money for commissary or phone services, head to jailatm.com. You can also place commissary orders directly through Legacy Commissary on that site - it walks you through the payment process.
- Go to jailatm.com - this is the online service Walker County uses for commissary ordering and deposits.
- Find the inmate’s profile - select the correct facility and choose your loved one from the search results.
- Add money to the account - follow the site prompts to complete the deposit for commissary or phone services.
The most common frustration? Expecting to cancel or get a refund after placing an order. Walker County Jail's policy is firm: once submitted, commissary orders cannot be changed or withdrawn. No refunds - even if the inmate leaves before the order arrives.
Think through timing before you order, especially close to the cutoff. Orders must be saved by Thursday at 11:00 p.m., deliveries happen Monday mornings (unless it's a holiday), and there are no refunds. If release timing is uncertain, confirm the inmate is still in custody before placing a large order.
