Inmates at Walker County Jail place their own commissary orders using a kiosk in each cell block. Only items on the jail's approved list can be purchased. If something isn't on the list, it's not available. Commissary is considered a privilege and can be restricted as part of disciplinary action.

The weekly cutoff is firm: all orders must be saved in the kiosk system by Thursday night at 11:00 p.m. "Saved" means fully submitted, not just started. An unfinished order won't count.

Orders that make the cutoff are delivered Monday morning. If Monday falls on a holiday, delivery is delayed. Once submitted, orders can't be changed, canceled, or refunded, even if the inmate leaves the jail before receiving it.

Walker County Jail caps commissary orders at $50.00. Only items on the approved list can be purchased. There's no credit available. If the inmate's account doesn't have enough funds when the order is processed, it won't go through.

  1. Submit an indigent kit request on the kiosk. Indigent inmates request the kit by filling out a commissary request using the kiosk in their cell block.
  2. Watch the timing. The indigent kit can only be ordered once every four weeks, so submitting another request too soon can lead to delays or denial.

The indigent kit includes basic hygiene items plus writing materials and postage stamps. The jail records the cost as a negative balance on the inmate's account, so future deposits go toward paying it off.

Note: Indigent kits are not “free” long-term. The cost is placed on the inmate’s account as a negative balance and may be covered by later deposits.

Want to help from the outside? Walker County Jail lets families order commissary online through Legacy Commissary using JailATM. You can also add money directly to an inmate's account through JailATM. Those funds can be used for commissary or phone services.

If an order didn't go through, start with the basics. Was it saved by Thursday at 11:00 p.m.? Deliveries happen Monday morning (except holidays). Remember: once submitted, orders can't be changed, withdrawn, or refunded, even if the inmate is released or transferred before delivery.
