Walker County Jail runs mail through two tracks. Personal mail from family and friends goes through JailATM's processing address in Atlanta. That's where you send postcards. Legal mail and books work differently: they must go directly to the jail's PO Box in LaFayette and be treated as legal correspondence or publications. Using the wrong address is a common reason mail doesn't get delivered. If you're unsure which address applies, confirm with the jail before mailing.

Walker County Jail’s street address is 105 South Duke Street, Lafayette, GA 30728. The main phone number is 706-638-1909.

For personal mail, Walker County Jail accepts postcards only. Letters in envelopes from family and friends won't be accepted. Send your postcard to the JailATM processing address (not the jail's PO Box): JailATM.com - Walker County Sheriff's Office Inmate Name / Inmate Number 925B Peachtree St NE, Box 2062 Atlanta, GA 30309

  • Keep photos to 3 or fewer total.
  • Do not include extra photos “just in case.” Going over the limit can cause letters and packages to be returned to the sender.
  • If you’re sending a postcard with a photo, count it toward the 3-photo limit so you don’t accidentally trigger a return.

Note: Personal mail is opened and inspected before delivery. The exception is legal mail from an attorney.

Legal mail and books must go to the jail's PO Box. Use your loved one's booked name and their 5-digit ID number (assigned at booking). Format it like this: Inmate Full Name (booked name) ID# (5 digit) Walker County Jail PO Box 866 LaFayette, GA 30728 Legal mail is handled differently from personal mail. Staff will open it in the presence of the inmate.

Books and magazines must ship directly from a publisher. Don't mail them yourself or have a friend send them. Items that don't come from the publisher won't be accepted.

Return Address Requirements

  • Your full name (no initials and no nicknames)
  • Your complete street mailing address
  • City, state, and ZIP

Note: If the return address isn’t complete (including if you use a nickname), the jail returns the mail unopened.

Walker County Jail can refuse or destroy mail that contains contraband or inappropriate content. This includes reading materials with explicit sexual content, tattoo-related content, and anything about purchasing, making, or assembling weapons. Material that incites violence is also prohibited. If something is deemed inappropriate for a jail setting, it may be rejected and destroyed.

Note: Mail that contains contraband can lead to loss of visitation, disciplinary action, and even prosecution.
