Understanding Victim Offender Dialogue (VOD): How to Request It and What to Expect

A VOD only happens if you request it. The first step is contacting OVSRS to complete a formal intake with the VOD Program Coordinator. During intake, you'll share what you're hoping to get from the process and can ask questions about what participation actually looks like.

After your intake, OVSRS contacts the prison where the incarcerated person is housed - such as Wasco State Prison - for an initial security screening. This screening determines whether the offender is eligible to participate.

VOD is strictly voluntary. Participation doesn't affect the offender's release date, classification score, or custody status. There's no sentence reduction or other benefit offered in exchange for taking part.

VOD meetings typically happen at the prison in a private, quiet room. You'll be there along with the offender, a facilitator, and support people for both sides. Security remains a priority - a Correctional Officer must be able to see into the room at all times.
