Onsite vs. Remote Video Visits at Washington County Detention Center: Which Should You Choose?
Washington County Justice Center gives you two video visit options: onsite (you come to the building and use their equipment) or remote (you connect from your own device at home). Which one works best depends on cost, your schedule, and whether your internet is reliable.
Washington County Detention Center (WCDC) offers two ways to video visit: onsite at the Washington County Justice Center, or remotely from home. Onsite visits happen Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 108 West Jackson Blvd., Jonesborough, TN 37659. Remote visits are available seven days a week in two windows (8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and are billed per minute.
Both options give you 20-minute sessions. The key difference is cost: inmates get three free onsite video visits per week, while remote visits are paid.
Onsite video visitation runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Head to the Washington County Justice Center at 108 West Jackson Blvd., Jonesborough, TN 37659 for your scheduled time and use the equipment provided there.
Each onsite session lasts 20 minutes. Inmates receive three free onsite visits per week, making this the better choice if you want to stay connected without adding another expense.
- ✓ Bring a valid photo ID to the Justice Center.
- ✓ Create your visitation account on one of the kiosks provided at the Justice Center.
- ✓ If the visitor is under 18, make sure they are accompanied by an adult (onsite visitors must be 18 or older to visit on their own).
Know your group size before you arrive. A maximum of two adults and two children can participate in a single onsite session.
Remote video visits let you connect from home using a laptop, computer, tablet, or cell phone. They run seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with each session lasting 20 minutes. The tradeoff: remote visits cost $0.20 per minute.
- Use the InmateSales site to schedule, follow the directions there to set up your remote visitation.
- Pick a time far enough ahead, since video visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours before the appointment.
- Schedule within the allowed window, up to 7 days in advance.
Note: If your internet connection drops during a remote visit, you cannot reconnect, and no refund will be issued. No-shows are also not refunded.
Choosing between onsite and remote comes down to cost and schedule. Onsite visits are free (up to three per week for the inmate), but they only run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and require a trip to the Justice Center. Remote visits offer more flexibility with seven-day availability and wider time windows, but you pay $0.20 per minute.
Reminder: All video visitation sessions are subject to monitoring and recording.
