First-Time Video Visit Checklist: Washington County Detention Center (MD)
Your first video visit can go smoothly—as long as you set up the right account and use the correct app. This checklist walks you through registration, testing your setup, and avoiding last-minute tech surprises.
Washington County Detention Center uses Inmate Visitation by GTL / ViaPath Technologies for video visits. Start at the visitor portal login page - if you're new, click
Note: The site also lists Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, Internet Visit Requirements, Professional Visitor info, and a Contact option - handy if you need rules, eligibility details, or help.
Before you do anything else, decide which device you’ll use for the visit. GTL VisBridge is the desktop/laptop option on the Washington County visit site, while Android users are directed to keep using the GTL VisMobile app instead of VisBridge. Picking the right path up front prevents you from installing the wrong tool and scrambling right before your visit.
- Plan to log in early - Sign into your visitor account at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit.
- Run the Internet Visit Tester - From the menu bar, select “Internet Visit Tester” to start the setup process.
- Install VisBridge when prompted - Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the GTL VisBridge desktop application.
- Use the Windows or Mac tutorial if you need it - The site provides step-by-step “how to” videos for both Windows and Mac to walk you through installing and using VisBridge.
Tip: If you get stuck on desktop setup, use the step-by-step VisBridge tutorial videos for Windows or Mac - they’re built specifically to guide you through installation and use.
If you’re visiting from an Android phone or tablet, use the GTL VisMobile app (not the VisBridge desktop application). Before your visit, open the app ahead of time and make sure you’re running the current version so you’re not dealing with updates at the start of your scheduled time.
- Register if you’re new - On the visitor login page, choose “REGISTER TODAY” and follow the prompts to create your account.
- Sign in once you’ve registered - Use your Visitor ID or email and your password to log on.
- Reset access if you can’t log in - Use the “Forgot your password?” link on the login page to recover your account.
For Washington County internet visits, headphones are recommended for the best audio experience. If you can, test your sound (and your microphone if you’ll be speaking) ahead of time so you’re not troubleshooting once the visit starts.
Once you’re signed in, use the options on the Washington County video visit site to manage your visit: “Schedule Visits” is where you reserve a time, and “Purchase Extra Visits” is where you can buy additional visits when you need them.
Pay-per-visit: This option lets you purchase a visit when the incarcerated person has used their free visit quota, when the time or type of visit falls under the facility’s charged-visit guidelines, or when you want to visit from a more convenient visitation center.
If something isn’t working - especially on the day of your visit - go back to the Washington County GTL/ViaPath video visit site and use the built-in help and policy pages. The Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, and Internet Visit Requirements pages can answer common questions about rules and technical requirements, and the Contact option is the best place to start when you need direct help.
