Setting Up Video Visits with Someone at Washington State Penitentiary

Before you can schedule a video visit with someone at Washington State Penitentiary, two things need to be in place: you must be on that person's Approved Visitor List, and you need a Securus account set up in your own name. Missing either one? You won't be able to book.

Quick tip: Have the incarcerated person’s DOC number handy before you start - Securus requires it to create an account.

Setting Up Video Visits with Someone at Washington State Penitentiary
  1. Get the DOC number - You’ll need the incarcerated person’s DOC number to start your Securus setup.
  2. Create your Securus profile with exact ID details - Enter your first name, last name, and date of birth exactly as they appear on your legal ID.
  3. Leave out your middle name - Don’t add a middle name or middle initial, even if you normally use it; stick to first name and last name only.

Fixing a mismatch: If you entered the wrong name or date of birth, you’ll need to contact Securus customer assistance to update your profile.

With your approval confirmed and Securus account ready, you can start booking visits. Slots must be reserved at least 24 hours ahead, run in 30-minute increments, and fill up first-come, first-served. Plan early if you want a specific time.

Timing matters on the incarcerated person's end, too. They won't be pulled from work or programming for a video visit, so they need to request times that fit their schedule. Video visiting hours vary by facility - check WSP's visitor guidelines when picking a slot to make sure it's actually available.

Think of a video visit like an in-person visit: it's not private. All sessions are recorded, and staff monitor them to ensure everyone follows policy and facility rules.

  • Prohibited conduct during a video visit can get your video visiting privileges suspended or terminated.
  • Regular (in-person) visiting privileges can also be suspended or terminated.
  • Don’t let anyone who isn’t an approved visitor participate in the video visit - this is grounds for suspension.

Troubleshoot Privacy Contact

  • Use your own equipment: a computer with speakers, a microphone, and a webcam, plus reliable internet access.
  • If privacy screens are provided, use them and keep them in place for the entire visit.

Questions about video visits at WSP? Contact the facility and ask for visit staff. If you get voicemail, leave a message with the incarcerated person's six-digit DOC number and a brief description of what you need - including that number helps staff pull up the right account faster when they return your call.
