At Washington State Penitentiary, your visitor profile name must match your current ID. Staff check this when you arrive - if the names don't line up, you could face delays or be turned away entirely.

Bring ID every time: If you’re 18 or older, you must present a valid, current photo ID at the visit (like a driver’s license or state ID). If you’re an international visitor, your passport is required as your photo ID.

  1. Write down the details the Statewide Visit Unit needs - Include the incarcerated person’s name and DOC number, your current name, your previous name, and the state or country where your identification was issued.
  2. Contact the Statewide Visit Unit - You can request the name update by email or by leaving a voicemail on the general visit phone line.
  3. Double-check your names before you send - Use the exact spelling shown on your current ID, and list your previous name(s) the way they appeared before the change.

  • If you’re changing your relationship to an immediate family relationship, send copies of official documents (such as marriage and/or birth certificates) to the Statewide Visit Unit.
  • Mail copies via USPS to: Department of Corrections, Attn: Statewide Visit Unit, PO Box 41118, Olympia, WA 98504-1118.
