As of June 1, 2025, adults 18 and older with a valid South Carolina driver's license can register online for visitation at Wateree River Corrections Institution. If that's you, the online option is the fastest way to get started.

When Paper Required

  • You are registering a minor child (all minor applications must be submitted on paper, with documentation that verifies the relationship).
  • You are an adult without an ID or without a South Carolina driver’s license (for example, you use a passport or a U.S. visa).
  • You are an adult with an out-of-state driver’s license.
  • You do not have access to a computer or you run into technical difficulties using a computer.

Note: Minor children cannot be registered online. Their visitation requests have to go through the paper process with documents that prove the relationship.

If you need to submit a paper application, mail it to: Division of Visitation, P.O. Box 212969, Columbia, S.C., 29221-2969. Before you seal the envelope, double-check that you've included the completed application and any supporting documents for your situation. That might mean relationship documentation for a minor child, or alternate identification if you don't have a South Carolina driver's license.

  1. Complete the paper application - Use the paper process if you are applying for a minor child, if you do not have a South Carolina driver’s license, or if you have an out-of-state driver’s license.
  2. Gather your supporting documents - Include relationship documentation for any minor child, and include the ID documents you use if you are not applying with a South Carolina driver’s license.
  3. Mail everything to the Division of Visitation - Send your packet to Division of Visitation, P.O. Box 212969, Columbia, S.C., 29221-2969.

  • If you do not have a South Carolina driver’s license (including if you use a passport or U.S. visa), use the paper application process.
  • If you have an out-of-state driver’s license, use the paper application process.
  • If you do not have computer access or you hit technical issues online, use the paper application process.
