Understanding Wateree River's Visit Limits: Four Visits Per Month and One Per Weekend
Wateree River follows South Carolina Department of Corrections visit-frequency rules. Once you understand the monthly cap and the weekend limit, planning visits without running into avoidable scheduling problems gets a lot easier.
General population inmates with visitation privileges are allowed four in-person visits per month. This is a hard cap. Once all four visits are used up for that month, you'll need to wait until the next month to visit again in person.
- Space visits out across the month – If you want a steady routine, plan for one visit each week until you reach four.
- Front-load visits for a busy month – If you know travel or work will get harder later, use two visits early in the month, then save the remaining two for later.
- Save visits for specific dates – If you are trying to line up visits around birthdays or other meaningful days, hold your four visits and use them when those dates fall.
Tip: The rule is "four visits per month." If you're close to the limit, confirm how the facility counts visits for that month before you make the drive.
On top of the monthly cap, there's a one-visit-per-weekend limit. You can't stack two in-person visits into the same weekend to "catch up," even if you still have visits left under the four-per-month cap.
- Plan four separate weekends – One visit per weekend across four different weekends uses the full four-visits-per-month allowance.
- Avoid double-booking a weekend – If you visit once on a weekend, a second in-person visit that same weekend would not be allowed, even if it would only be your second or third visit for the month.
- Watch the month boundary – If you visit on a weekend at the very end of one month, your next visit needs to follow both rules: the next month’s total of four, and still only one visit per weekend.
Planning note: If you want to use all four visits, the simplest approach is one visit on four different weekends. In months with more than four weekends, you're still limited to four total visits for the month.
Each in-person visit can include up to four visitors at a time. At least one must be an adult. So if children are coming, make sure an adult is part of the group that checks in.
- ✓ Make sure at least one adult is included in the group for every visit.
- ✓ Decide which four people will attend if more than four family members want to go.
- ✓ Rotate visitors across different visits if you are trying to include extended family over the course of the month.
Before you can visit, you'll need to be on the inmate's approved visiting list. That list has a maximum of 15 approved visitors. The form you'll use is SCDC Form 19-127, "Request for Visiting Privileges," which is provided to prospective visitors.
- Ask the inmate for the form – The “Request for Visiting Privileges” (SCDC Form 19-127) comes from the inmate.
- Fill it out completely – Incomplete information can slow down approval.
- Submit it for approval – Once you are approved and added to the visiting list (up to 15 total), you can plan visits within the four-per-month and one-per-weekend limits.
