What to Bring and How to Schedule Your First Visit to Waukesha County Jail

Waukesha County Jail uses video visitation for all public visits - you won't be sitting face-to-face. Contact visits are a separate option, but they require an appointment. Decide which type you need before making the trip.

Note: If you need a contact visit, plan on scheduling it ahead of time by phone during the jail’s appointment window.

ID Requirements

Staff check your ID before allowing you to visit. Bring identification that shows your name, date of birth, and photo. Without it, you'll be turned away at check-in.

Each session allows up to two visitors per inmate. If more people want to come, you'll need to take turns - otherwise someone gets turned away at the lobby.

Note: No unattended children under 12 are allowed in the public lobby, so arrange childcare or make sure an adult is actively supervising them the entire time.

Call (262) 548-7171 to schedule a contact visit. The scheduling line is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Reminder: Contact visits are by appointment only. Call during the Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. window before you go.

What to Bring and How to Schedule Your First Visit to Waukesha County Jail
  1. Check in with your ID - you’ll be asked for identification that includes your name, date of birth, and a photograph.
  2. Confirm what kind of visit you’re doing - public visits are handled through video visitation, while contact visits require a scheduled appointment.
  3. Be ready for interruptions - video visitation can be disconnected during facility lockdowns.

Note: Lockdowns can disconnect video visits without warning. If timing matters, build in extra time and have a backup plan for rescheduling.
