What You Can (and Can't) Mail to an Inmate at Waupaca County Jail

Address your envelope with the inmate's full name and the jail's mailing address: Waupaca County Jail, 1402 E. Royalton Street, Waupaca, WI 54981. Skip the inmate's name? That's the fastest way for mail to get kicked back before it ever reaches them.

  • Include a return address on every piece of mail - mail without one isn’t accepted.

Keep letters simple. Waupaca County Jail won't accept musical cards, homemade cards, or drawings of any kind. Stickers, heavy perfume on the envelope or letter, and decorative extras? Also rejected. These are some of the most common reasons mail gets stopped.

Printed internet content won't make it through either. The jail rejects Facebook posts, blogs, Twitter content, song lyrics - anything pulled from the web. Newspaper or magazine clippings are also off-limits.

Packages are a frequent problem area. The jail doesn't accept packages from sites like Amazon or Barnes & Noble - with one exception. As of 08/01/23, you can send soft-cover books directly from publishers or websites (including Amazon and Barnes & Nobles), as long as they're softcover with appropriate content.

  • Drop off soft-cover book and puzzle donations in the Sheriff’s Department lobby
  • Don’t donate magazines or hard-cover books - they aren’t accepted

Photos are allowed, but keep it limited. Inmates can only have six pictures total, and the jail asks that you stick to standard 4 x 6 size. Gang-related, inappropriate, or nude photos won't be accepted.

What happens if you send something not allowed: Mail with drawings, stickers, heavy perfume, internet postings, or clippings may be returned to you or held in the inmate's property bag until release.
