Before You Drive to Waupun: What to Bring and What to Leave at Home

Aim to arrive no more than 15 minutes before visiting hours start. Showing up earlier won't get you in faster - you'll just end up waiting.

In the lobby, staff may ask you to fill out a DOC-176 (Request to Visit Offender). Have your basic info ready and take a moment to complete it carefully.

Anyone 16 or older needs photo ID to enter. Make sure yours is valid and easy to grab at check-in.

  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Valid passport or visa
  • Valid Department of Transportation (DMV) photo ID
  • Valid military identification card
  • Valid tribal photo ID

You'll pass through a metal detector before entering the visiting room. Here's the catch: if you can't clear it within three attempts, you won't be allowed in. What you wear - and what you leave in the car - really matters.

  1. Plan ahead if you have a medical reason you may not clear screening - don’t wait until you’re already at the door.
  2. Complete DOC-2424 - this is required to request a medical accommodation related to metal-detection issues.
  3. Get physician verification - your doctor must verify the medical need as part of the accommodation request.

Tip: To speed up entry, avoid metal jewelry and clothing with metal (like buckles, snaps, bib overalls, or wire undergarments).

Packing Vending

  • Metal jewelry
  • Clothing with metal buckles
  • Clothing with metal snaps
  • Bib overalls
  • Wire undergarments

Planning to use the vending machines? Bring a credit or debit card - they're card-only. You're allowed to bring one card for vending, so pick the one you want and leave the rest in your vehicle.
