Understanding Waupun's Video Visit Options: Free vs. Paid Visits
WCI's materials say one thing about video visits. DOC-wide rollout documents say another. Here's what each source describes—and what to do before you schedule or pay.
WCI's visiting document describes an allowance of two video visits per month. When that document was written, those two visits were free - though it warns this could change. Each visit runs 50 minutes, so you can plan for a full conversation rather than a quick check-in.
- ✓ Schedule video visits through ICSolutions (WCI staff cannot schedule ICSolutions video visits for you).
- ✓ Schedule within the allowed window: up to 14 days in advance, and no less than 48 hours before the visit time you want.
Already set up your ICSolutions account but having trouble scheduling? WCI's visiting document directs you to email DOCDAIElectronicVisitSupport@wisconsin.gov for help with scheduling issues.
DOC rollout materials for Enhanced Video Visitation describe a different setup. During the first six months, each person in DOC care may receive one free video visit per week - if the institution can accommodate it. Additional paid visits are available at $2.50 per visit, up to 12 paid visits per month, again depending on the facility's capacity.
These two sources don't line up. WCI's document says two free video visits per month. The DOC rollout materials say one free visit per week for six months, plus paid options. Both are official, but they may reflect different scopes, timeframes, or how the program was rolled out at WCI specifically. The bottom line: don't assume anything about free vs. paid until you confirm what's currently applied to your loved one's account.
- Start with WCI’s current visiting document - It’s the closest thing to “local rules,” and it’s where the two-free-visits-per-month and 50-minute visit length are spelled out.
- Use ICSolutions for scheduling - WCI’s document is explicit that visits are scheduled through ICSolutions and that WCI staff can’t schedule those visits for you.
- Schedule inside the allowed window - Pick a time that’s at least 48 hours out, and no more than 14 days ahead.
- Escalate scheduling problems the way the document says to - After your account is established, direct scheduling issues to DOCDAIElectronicVisitSupport@wisconsin.gov.
- Confirm the current free/paid allowance before you plan around it - With the facility document and DOC rollout materials describing different setups, verify what’s actually available before you count on a free slot or pay for an extra visit.
Note: WCI's visiting document and DOC rollout materials describe different free/paid allowances. Verify what's current before you schedule - especially before you pay.
