Waupun Visiting Room Rules: A Plain-English Checklist of What You Can and Can't Do
Visiting at Waupun Correctional Institution is much easier when you know the small rules that can end a visit early. This plain-English checklist will help you avoid surprises once you're in the visiting room.
In-person visits at WCI last up to 2.5 hours. That time goes fast. The visiting room rules are strictly enforced, so a small mistake - breaking a contact rule or letting kids wander - can cut your visit short.
The point is simple: keep the visiting room safe, calm, and fair for everyone. Follow the conduct and item rules below, and you're much more likely to get your full visit and protect future visiting privileges.
Physical contact at WCI is limited. A brief embrace and kiss at the start and end of your visit? Fine. Anything beyond that counts as excessive affection and isn't allowed.
Watch the contact rules: If staff see excessive physical affection, they can stop the behavior - and your visit can be ended.
Searches are part of the routine. The person you're visiting will be pat searched before the visit and strip-searched afterward.
Restroom breaks mean more searching. If your loved one uses the restroom during the visit, they'll be strip-searched, which can eat into your time together.
Food and drinks are allowed during visits, but you can't share them with the person you're visiting. Anything purchased must be handled before the visit ends - they can eat it, throw it away, or send it out with you. No food goes back to the housing unit.
- ✓ Vending machines accept credit/debit cards only (plan to bring a card).
Food rule shortcut: Don’t hand food or drinks to the PIOC, and don’t leave edible items for them to take back - finish it, toss it, or take it with you.
Keep what you carry into the visiting area minimal. At WCI, only a wedding ring and emergency medication are allowed.
The PIOC also has clothing rules during visits. They must wear institution-issued outer garments (green shirt and green pants) and state-issued shoes.
Bringing kids? You're responsible for supervising them the entire time. Children must stay at the table and can't disrupt other visits.
- ✓ No running in the visiting room
- ✓ No loud yelling
