What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) for Your Waupun Correctional Visit

If you’re 16 or older, bring a photo ID - staff will check it at the lobby before you can visit. Acceptable IDs include a valid state driver’s license, a valid passport or visa, a valid Department of Transportation (DMV) photo ID, a valid military ID card, or a valid tribal photo ID.

Want snacks or drinks during your visit? Bring a credit or debit card. The vending machines at Waupun Correctional Institution are card-only - no cash. You're allowed to bring one credit/debit card into the visiting area.

Think about the metal detector when you get dressed. Jewelry, belt buckles, snaps, bib overalls, underwire bras - anything metal increases your chances of setting off the detector and slowing down entry. WCI has a strict rule: if you can't clear the metal detector within three attempts, you won't be allowed into the visiting room.

Know your headcount before you go. WCI allows a maximum of four approved visitors per in-person visit, and that includes everyone - adults, kids, and infants. Yes, a baby in a carrier counts toward your four. At least one visitor must be an adult. During the visit, children seven or younger may sit on your loved one's lap or be held, as long as staff don't identify any risk factors.

1. Time your arrival - Get there no more than 15 minutes before visiting hours start.
2. Be ready for lobby paperwork - When you arrive, you may be required to complete a DOC-176 Request to Visit Offender.
3. Check your ID before you walk in - If you’re 16 or older, you must provide photo identification to visit.
4. Remove metal and try again (quickly) - If you set off the metal detector, take off metal items and adjust clothing; if you can’t clear the detector within three attempts, you’ll be denied entry to the visiting room.
