How to Send Money to Facility
Start with the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) guidance. GDC directs friends and family to its "How Do I Send Money to an Offender" page, which lists the available options and walks you through each one.
If you're placing food package orders (separate from sending money), pay close attention to the package limits. GDC caps both spending and weight. For State Prisons and Integrated Treatment Facilities (ITFs), the limit is $100 per offender or 15 lbs. per package, whichever is reached first. For Probation Detention Centers, it drops to $50 per offender or 7 lbs. per package. One more thing to know: if multiple orders are placed for the same offender, they get consolidated into a single package, and that combined package still has to stay within the same limits.
Note: Food package orders include a non-refundable $2.95 shipping and handling charge. Riverbend Private Prison in Georgia uses the Access Securepak package program until further notice.
Steps
- ✓ Check the GDC “How Do I Send Money to an Offender” page first, then follow the option and instructions listed there for your situation.
- ✓ If you are ordering a package, confirm which limit applies: State Prisons/ITFs are capped at $100 per offender or 15 lbs. per package (whichever comes first), and Probation Detention Centers are capped at $50 per offender or 7 lbs. per package (whichever comes first).
- ✓ If you plan to place multiple package orders for the same offender, remember they will be consolidated into a single package, and the combined package cannot exceed the spending or weight limit.
- ✓ For food package orders, include the $2.95 non-refundable shipping and handling charge in your total. If the offender is at Riverbend Private Prison, use the Access Securepak package program until further notice.
Use the GDC "How Do I Send Money to an Offender" page as your main reference point. That's where GDC sends people to learn the current options for sending funds.
- Confirm the facility type (State Prison/ITF vs. Probation Detention Center) so you are using the correct package limit.
- Double-check the package cap before ordering: $100 per offender or 15 lbs. per package for State Prisons/ITFs, and $50 per offender or 7 lbs. per package for Probation Detention Centers (whichever limit is reached first).
- Plan around consolidation if you were thinking about multiple orders. Multiple orders for the same offender are consolidated into one package, and the combined package still must stay within the limit.
Ordering food packages? Confirm the $2.95 shipping and handling charge before you submit your order. That fee is non-refundable.
For Riverbend Private Prison deliveries, double-check that Access Securepak is still the package program being used. As of the latest guidance, it's listed as the program in use until further notice.
