Sending Food Packages Through Union Supply: What You Need to Know
Sending a food package through Union Supply is pretty straightforward once you know which Georgia facilities are eligible, how to place an order, and what limits apply. Here are the rules that tend to trip people up, laid out clearly.
The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) allows Union Supply to deliver food item packages to inmates at State Prisons, Integrated Treatment Facilities (ITFs), and Probation Detention Centers. If your loved one is housed at one of those types of facilities, Union Supply is the program you'll use for food packages.
You don't have to be the incarcerated person to place an order. Approved family members and friends can order food packages through Union Supply for eligible inmates, so you can help from the outside as long as you're approved to participate.
Exception: Riverbend Private Prison in Georgia uses the Access Securepak package program instead of Union Supply until further notice.
You can place a Union Supply food package order online through the Georgia Inmate Package website. The site also has a downloadable order form, which is handy if you want to plan your selections before submitting.
Prefer mail? Send your order to: Union Supply, 2500 Regent Blvd Dept. 421, P.O. Box 619059, Dallas, TX 75261-9059.
To order by phone, call 1-562-361-5719. There's also a toll-free number: 1-855-247-0563.
Fax orders are accepted too, at 1-310-603-1188.
Every Union Supply order includes a $2.95 shipping and handling charge. It's non-refundable, so factor it into your budget from the start.
For State Prisons and ITFs, GDC caps orders at $100 per offender or 15 lbs. per package, whichever you hit first. That means a heavy order can reach the cap even if you haven't spent the full $100.
Probation Detention Centers have a lower cap: $50 per offender or 7 lbs. per package. Same rule applies. Whichever limit you reach first is the one that controls.
Heads up: If multiple Union Supply orders are placed for the same offender, they get combined into one package. That combined package still can't exceed the applicable spending or weight limits.
Most GDC locations that accept Union Supply packages fall under State Prisons, ITFs, and Probation Detention Centers. The one major exception is Riverbend Private Prison, which uses Access Securepak until further notice. If your loved one is at Riverbend, you'll need to follow that program instead.
