Visiting West Texas Detention Center: schedule, arrival, and what to expect
Visiting at West Texas Detention Center runs on a set daily window, organized by the detainee's gender. Check the schedule below, then plan your arrival so you don't lose precious time to check-in and security.
Visitation is split by gender. Visiting a male detainee? Your days are Friday and Saturday. Visiting a female detainee? Sunday and Monday. Hours run 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on those scheduled days.
Note: If you need information on a detainee, call the facility main telephone line between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Visits are short - just 30 minutes - so go in with a plan. Arrive ready to make the most of that time, and keep expectations realistic if you're traveling a long distance.
- ✓ A maximum of 2 visitors are allowed at a time.
- ✓ If more than two people want to come, decide ahead of time who will go in together so you’re not sorting it out at the door.
Give yourself extra time up front. The facility recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled visit to clear security without rushing. This buffer matters. Show up right at your visit time, and you'll spend a chunk of your 30 minutes just getting checked in.
- Pick the correct day for the detainee’s gender - Males visit Friday/Saturday; females visit Sunday/Monday.
- Plan your time within visiting hours (8:00 AM–5:00 PM) - that’s the visitation window on scheduled days.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early - this is the facility’s recommendation so you can be processed through security.
- Complete processing and start your visit - once you’re cleared, you’ll be able to use your visit time.
Parking is one less thing to worry about - it's free for visitors. Build that into your arrival plan so you can park, get settled, and still have your 30-minute buffer before check-in.
Attorney visits work differently. Attorneys can see clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week - including holidays. That's separate from regular visitation, which sticks to the scheduled days and the 8:00 AM–5:00 PM window.
