In-person visits at NENMCF happen Monday through Friday only. There's no weekend visitation. If Saturday or Sunday is your only option, you'll need to rearrange your schedule before requesting a visit.

Each visit runs in a two-hour block. Your options are 8:00 am to 10:00 am, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, or 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Have these windows in mind when you request your visit, and pick the one that realistically fits your travel and arrival time.

All in-person visits at NENMCF must be scheduled at least one week in advance. Last-minute trips won't work, even if you're already on the approved list. Traveling from out of town? Build in extra cushion. Pick your preferred weekday and time block early, and hold off on non-refundable plans until your visit is confirmed.

Holiday heads-up: Holiday schedules can look very different from a normal weekday. If you're planning a visit around a holiday, start the process early and confirm details before you show up.

Traveling a long distance? NENMCF offers an optional two-day visit. You get two hours on the first day and two hours on the second, and the days must be consecutive (Monday and Tuesday, for example). The same visitors need to attend both days, so make sure everyone in your group can commit to the full schedule.

Before anything gets scheduled, your name has to be on the incarcerated person's current approved visitation list. If you're not approved yet (or your approval has lapsed), you can be turned away, even after a long trip. Not sure whether you're currently approved? Handle that first, then move on to scheduling your time block.

  1. Ask the inmate to add you to their list. At NENMCF, the process starts with the inmate requesting to have your name placed on their visiting list.
  2. Complete the visitor application you’re sent. You will be sent a visiting application (CD-100201.1) to fill out for review. Complete it fully and accurately, then return it so it can be approved or denied under the visiting guidelines.
  3. Plan for renewals every two years. Visitation applications must be resubmitted every two years, so if you visited in the past, you may need to renew to stay on the approved list.

Expect a screening process when you arrive. Everyone entering the facility must pass through a metal detector and/or controlled substance detection equipment, or be screened by dogs trained to detect controlled substances. You'll also sign a Visitor Statement of Understanding acknowledging that search regulations can be enforced while you're on institutional grounds. If a strip search is requested and you refuse, the visit will be cancelled or suspended. Knowing this policy ahead of time helps you decide before you make the trip.

Dress code reminder: You must be appropriately dressed. If your clothing makes it hard to distinguish you from an inmate, you'll be denied entry for the day.

Got questions about visitation? Family Constituent Services can help. Reach them by email at CDFamilySrvcs@cd.nm.gov or by phone at (505) 827-8710 or (505) 231-4762 (leave a message if no one picks up). When you contact them, include the offender's full name, NMCD number, date of birth and/or SSN (if available), and your relationship to the offender. One thing to know: they cannot release offender health or mental health information without a current signed release from the offender authorizing disclosure.
