Setting Up and Completing Your First Home Video Visit with an Inmate at Western Virginia Regional Jail
Your first home video visit can feel stressful—mostly because timing and setup need to be just right. Here's how to get your GettingOut account ready, understand the costs, and make sure you're logged in the moment the visit starts.
To accept a home video visit at Western Virginia Regional Jail, you need a GettingOut.com account. Set one up before your scheduled visit - without it, you won't be able to accept the visit request when it comes through.
Once your account is created, add the inmate you want to visit as a contact inside GettingOut. This step is essential. Until they're listed as a contact in your account, you won't be able to accept their visit request.
Home video visits with someone at WVRJ run 30 minutes. Plan for a full half-hour where you can be uninterrupted, because once the visit starts, the clock is running.
Home video visits are a paid service at $0.25 per minute. Know the rate ahead of time so there are no surprises when you're ready to connect.
Critical timing: You must be logged into the GettingOut Visits app at the time the inmate initiates the visit. If you aren’t logged in when they start it, you can miss the connection.

Pre Visit Tech and Punctuality
- ✓ Log into the GettingOut Visits app a few minutes early so you’re already signed in when the inmate initiates the visit.
- ✓ Confirm you’re signed into the correct GettingOut account (the one that has the inmate added as a contact).
- ✓ Do a quick device check (camera, microphone, speaker/headphones) before the visitation window starts so you’re not troubleshooting on the clock.
- ✓ Use a steady internet connection and a quiet spot so you can hear each other clearly once the visit connects.
Don’t log in late: If you’re late for a scheduled video visit, you’ll only be allowed the remainder of your scheduled time.
