Picking Up or Releasing Property at Wicomico County Detention Center: The 30-Day Rule

When someone is released or transferred from Wicomico County Detention Center, their belongings don't wait around forever. You have 30 days to pick up their property. After that, unclaimed items get disposed of per departmental policy.

Want someone else to pick up the property? The inmate needs to fill out a Property Release Form. This authorizes who can receive their belongings.

Three signatures are required on the Property Release Form: the inmate's, the property receiver's, and a witness's. If the inmate won't be around to grab their stuff within the 30-day window, get this form completed before release. That way the designated person can handle pickup on their behalf.

Property pickup hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Show up outside that window and you'll be turned away.

Bring picture identification when you come. The person listed as the property receiver is the one who needs to sign the form, and that same person must show photo ID at the time of pickup.

That 30-day deadline applies whether someone is released or transferred. Inmates heading to the Maryland Division of Correction can only take limited property with them - everything else still needs a Property Release Form and pickup within 30 days. Miss the deadline, and the items get disposed of per departmental policy.

Tip: If the inmate won’t be available to pick up property within 30 days, have them complete the Property Release Form before release so a receiver can pick it up.
