Sending Mail to Wicomico County Detention Center: Return Address, Photo Limits, and Publisher-Only Books

Start with the envelope itself. Every piece of incoming mail needs your full name and a correct return address - without both, the mail gets sent back to the post office. For the recipient, use the inmate's full legal name and inmate number so staff can match it to the right person.

Photos are allowed as long as they're non-sexual. If you're unsure whether a picture might be rejected, pick a different one - playing it safe avoids delays.

Each inmate can only keep five photos with them at a time. Anything beyond five gets placed into their stored property rather than staying in their possession.

Expect your mail to be checked. All incoming mail is opened and inspected for contraband before it’s allowed into the facility.

Legal mail works differently. It's opened in the presence of the inmate rather than being processed like regular correspondence.

Books, magazines, and newspapers must be shipped the right way. Wicomico County Detention Center only accepts these items when sent directly from the publisher through U.S. Mail.

Format matters too - books must be paperback. Hardcover books aren't permitted.

Even correctly shipped publications can be rejected for content. Pornographic or gang-related magazines are not accepted and will be returned to the publisher.

There's a limit on reading material too: inmates can have no more than three books or magazines with them at any time. Extras go into their stored personal property.

Don't send packages - they won't be delivered. Stick to regular mail, and for books, magazines, and newspapers, use the publisher-direct method described above.
