Bring a government-issued photo ID with your current address. You'll need it every visit. If your ID doesn't meet that standard, staff can turn you away at check-in.

Even with the right ID, you won’t be admitted unless you’re on the inmate’s visitation list. If you’re not sure whether you’ve been added, get that confirmed before you make the trip.

Visits are scheduled in advance - call Front Reception on Wednesday or Thursday during the facility's designated scheduling times. Each inmate gets one visit per week, and visits max out at 20 minutes. Plan for a short, focused conversation.

Don't show up too early. Wicomico County Detention Center only lets visitors arrive within 10 minutes of their scheduled time.

When your visit ends, leave the facility right away. The lobby isn't a waiting area - no one can stay there while visits are in progress.

Prohibited Items

  • Cell phones (not permitted inside; treated as contraband)
  • Cameras (not permitted inside; treated as contraband)
  • Food
  • Drinks

The dress code applies to everyone, including children. If a Supervisor or Designee decides your clothing is inappropriate, you won't get in. Dress conservatively to avoid being turned away at the door.

  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Head coverings
  • Sunglasses
  • Coats
  • Jackets
  • Shawls
  • Tube tops
  • Tank tops
  • Halter tops
  • See-through clothing

Note: Obscene, loud, or vulgar language - or any disorderly conduct - can end your visit immediately.

Visitors must follow Department of Corrections visiting regulations. Break the rules or do anything that threatens the facility's safe operation, and you can lose visiting privileges. Serious violations could lead to criminal prosecution.

Beyond being turned away on a given day, visiting privileges can be suspended indefinitely. The Director or Designee makes that call, so treat every rule - dress code, items, conduct - as non-negotiable.
