Adults 18 and older need a current, government-issued photo ID. At least one ID must show your current physical address - double-check that detail before you leave home.

Kids 17 and under typically don't need ID unless staff question their age. If that might be an issue, bring backup - a birth certificate, DPS ID, or student ID works.

Note: If showing a current physical address creates a safety concern, contact the unit ahead of time and ask what documentation they can accept for your situation.

What Not to Bring

  • Don’t bring cash - coins are the only exception, and you can have up to $35 in coins.
  • Don’t bring a cell phone past the secure perimeter.

Assume anything you bring could be searched. Staff can check vehicles and visitors, and prohibited items are one of the fastest ways to lose your visit for the day.

Eligible inmates can receive one visit per cycle. Planning multiple trips close together? Keep that Monday–Sunday window in mind so you don't show up expecting a visit that won't be approved.

Reminder: Visiting days and hours can change - check the current schedule before you travel, especially around holidays or facility disruptions.

Visitation is a privilege, and the rules are enforced closely. All visits - except attorney-client meetings - may be electronically monitored. Assume conversations can be recorded and keep things appropriate.

  1. Arrive ready for screening - vehicles and visitors can be searched by unit staff, so keep your car and pockets simple.
  2. Leave prohibited items outside the secure perimeter - cell phones are not allowed inside, so store them in your vehicle before you approach entry.
  3. Follow staff directions quickly - the process moves faster when you’re prepared to comply with searches and instructions.

Note: If staff tell you an item can’t come in or a step needs to be redone, don’t argue - fix it and move on so your visit isn’t cut short.

Before you drive out, confirm the person you're visiting is still assigned to the William P. Clemens Unit and that visitation hasn't been disrupted. Vehicles and visitors are screened at the gate - showing up unprepared can mean getting turned away.
