To visit at Wise County Jail, make sure your name and personal information are listed on the inmate’s visitation card, and bring a valid picture ID if you are 17 or older.

Wise County Jail accepts a state-issued ID card or driver's license, a military ID, or a passport. Want to use something else? It has to be approved by a shift supervisor before your visit.

  • Bring one acceptable picture ID (state-issued ID/driver’s license, military ID, or passport)
  • If you are 17 or older, do not show up without picture ID
  • If your ID is unusual, get shift-supervisor approval before you arrive

Prohibited Items

  • Cell phones
  • Cameras
  • Purses
  • Diaper bags
  • Packages

Reminder: Leave prohibited items in your car or at home. Bringing them inside will hold up your entry.

Bringing a child or teen? Know the age rule ahead of time. Anyone 16 or younger must be accompanied by an approved adult visitor.

Once inside, you're responsible for keeping minors under control in both the lobby and the visitation rooms. If children cause a disturbance, the jail can cut the visit short or deny it entirely.

Show up without proper picture ID (if you're 17 or older) and you'll be turned away. The same goes if you're not listed on the inmate's visitation card. Your name and personal information have to be on that card before you can visit.

  1. Confirm you are on the visitation card - your name and personal information must be listed before you can visit.
  2. Bring an acceptable picture ID - use a state-issued ID/driver’s license, military ID, or passport.
  3. Get pre-approval for other IDs - if you need to use a different form of identification, a shift supervisor must approve it before the visit.
