How Mail to Woodbury County Jail Is Processed: NCIC scanning, limits, and what gets destroyed
Woodbury County Jail uses a centralized mail processing system. Send your letter to PO Box 591, follow the rules exactly, and your mail will be scanned and delivered electronically. The paper original won't be kept.
All regular inmate mail goes to a central processing address: PO Box 591, Longview, Texas 75606. Staff there scan your letter and send it to your loved one electronically through the jail's messaging system. Inmates view mail on kiosks or tablets inside the facility. Once delivered, the physical mail is destroyed.
Keep this in mind: Everything you mail to PO Box 591 gets destroyed after electronic delivery, including photos. Items sent there are not returned or reimbursed.
Addressing matters because mail is handled off-site before it ever reaches the jail. On every envelope, include your loved one's name and their inmate number (booking or jacket number), plus your own return address.
No return address = destroyed: Mail received without a return name or return address will be destroyed.
Wrong address = sent back: If you send inmate mail to any other PO Box or address (not PO Box 591), it will be returned to the sender.
The processing center has strict formatting limits. Going over them is an easy way to get your mail rejected. Only mail 8.5 inches by 11 inches or smaller is accepted. Letters can be no more than 5 pages total, and inmates can receive a maximum of 1 photo per mailing.
Mail is scanned front side only. Treat every sheet like it can only have writing on one side. If you write on the back of a page, your mail will be returned.
Photo rule is strict: If you include more than 1 photo, the entire letter and everything in it will be returned, and nothing will be scanned or delivered.
Books, magazines, newspapers, legal mail, and medical mail should not go to PO Box 591. The processing center won't accept them. Send those items directly to the facility instead.
Once your envelope arrives at the processing center, staff scan it and send it to your loved one electronically through the messaging system. They can view it securely on kiosks or tablets inside the facility. After electronic delivery, the original physical mail is destroyed and not retained.
Warning: Mail sent to PO Box 591 is not returned or reimbursed. Physical items, including pictures, are destroyed after electronic delivery. If you leave off your return name or return address, the mail will be destroyed.
