Need to handle something at the Jail Administration window, including book drop-offs? Plan around their staffed hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Dealing with bond? Call 712-279-6040 to verify the amount and release conditions. Cash bonds can be posted with the Woodbury County Clerk of Courts Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. After hours, post cash bonds directly at the jail.

Woodbury County Jail no longer accepts inmate personal property. That means you should not bring personal items to drop off - they won’t be accepted at the jail.

Everyday items now go through the jail's Inmate Commissary Account System. That's the only route - no in-person drop-offs.

Books are the main exception families ask about. Woodbury County Jail keeps it simple: Wednesday is book day. Show up any other day with books, and you'll likely be turned away.

  • Drop off new, soft-covered books only - and bring the receipt
  • Stick to the limit: up to two (2) books per inmate on Wednesday
  • Bring a photo ID when you drop books off at the Jail Administration window

Note: Soft-covered Bibles are accepted Monday–Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.

Physical mail to inmates goes through a processing address: send it to PO Box 591. The exceptions? Books, magazines, newspapers, legal mail, and medical mail - those follow separate rules.

Planning Checklist

  • Go during jail administration hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Bring your photo ID for any book drop-off at the Jail Administration window
  • If it’s Wednesday book day, bring new, soft-covered books and the receipt
  • Don’t bring personal property - use the Inmate Commissary Account System instead
