Why You Can't Mail Packages Directly to Wyoming CF (And What to Do Instead)
Want to send something to your loved one at Wyoming Correctional Facility? Here's the key rule: packages can't come from family or friends. DOCCS runs a vendor-only package system. You can still send letters, though—just address them correctly and stay within the mail limits.
Wyoming Correctional Facility follows DOCCS rules, which means packages are only accepted when shipped directly from approved vendors via U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, or UPS. You can't mail a package from home. You also can't drop one off during a visit. This falls under DOCCS' Vendor Package Program, detailed in Department Directive #4911 (Packages & Articles Sent to Facilities). To find out what you *can* send, check the vendor information linked to that directive and the DOCCS visitor resources.
Bottom line: Packages must come from vendors. Anything you mail yourself - or try to bring during a visit - won't be accepted at Wyoming CF.
With regular mail, proper addressing is everything. Every envelope needs the incarcerated person's name and DIN clearly written, plus your return address in the top-left corner. Missing or unclear info? Your letter could sit in limbo while staff figure out where it belongs.

- ✓ Nude photographs
- ✓ Polaroid photos
- ✓ Postage stamps
- ✓ Letters from other people (except children)
If you’re including printed pages with a letter - photocopies, printouts, or even newspaper clippings - keep it short. DOCCS limits printed or photocopied materials to five pages per piece of regular correspondence (and a single newspaper clipping counts as one page).
- Confirm it’s legal paperwork for an active matter - the exception is for printed or photocopied legal papers tied to the person’s current legal case.
- Have the incarcerated person submit a written request to the Superintendent - this is the approval step that allows more than five pages.
- Follow the timing limit - the request can be made no more than once every four months.
Items that aren't allowed get flagged as unauthorized. DOCCS either returns them to you (at the incarcerated person's expense) or disposes of them - whichever the incarcerated person chooses. Dangerous contraband is never returned. One common mistake: sending money. Checks, money orders, and cash aren't accepted through packages or regular mail at DOCCS facilities. If you want to help with funds or supplies, use the approved DOCCS channels - don't slip payment into an envelope or package.
