Before Your Visit to Yakima County Jail: ID Requirements and Visitor Registration
A little prep goes a long way when visiting someone at Yakima County Jail. Bring the right ID, schedule your visit in advance, and complete registration—otherwise, you'll get turned away at check-in.
Yakima County Jail requires a valid federal or state-issued ID card or passport. Show up without one, and you won't get in.
Your ID needs to be government-issued, include your photo, and show your date of birth. Staff use this to verify who you are when you arrive, so double-check that you’re bringing the correct ID before you leave home.
Before you can visit, you must register on the jail’s Visitor Registration Form. Plan to handle this step ahead of time so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.
Only scheduled visitors are allowed in. Showing up with ID but no appointment? You'll be turned away. Make sure the visit is set up first.
- ✓ Call the visit scheduling phone line: 509-574-2929
- ✓ Call during phone line hours: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- ✓ Don’t plan to call on weekends or listed holidays - the scheduling line is closed then
Note: All visits are monitored and may be recorded. Assume anything you say could be listened to later.
Each inmate can have up to two visitors per session - and children count toward that limit. Coming as a family? Decide ahead of time who's going in so no one gets left at the door.
The Visitor Registration Form is available through Yakima County's forms page, along with Visitation Guidelines PDFs in English and Spanish. Helping someone else prepare? The Spanish-language version makes the rules much easier to follow.
