Visiting with Kids: What Parents Need to Know at Yakima County Jail
Bringing kids to Yakima County Jail takes extra planning, especially the first time. Here's what you need to know about supervision rules, who can visit, and visitor limits.
At Yakima County Jail, children under 18 can’t come to a visit on their own. They must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and they can’t be left unattended at any time. If you’re bringing a child, plan on being fully responsible for them from the moment you arrive until you leave the property.
Everyone visiting must be listed on the Visitor Registration Form. This form records your name, address, relationship to the incarcerated person, and the date and time of the visit. Only scheduled visitors are allowed - you can't just show up and expect to be added. Get the visit scheduled ahead of time, and make sure the adult bringing the child is the authorized visitor.
Reminder: Use only the approved routes to and from the visiting area, and don’t linger on facility property when the visit ends.
In-person visits allow a maximum of two visitors per session - and children count toward that limit. One adult plus one child fills the session, same as two adults would.
Video visits have the same limit: two people per session, including children. If you want to include multiple kids, you'll need to work around that cap.
- Call to schedule the visit - Use the jail’s visit-scheduling phone line at 509-574-2929. The line is open 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is closed on weekends and listed holidays.
- Make sure everyone is a scheduled visitor - Only scheduled visitors may visit, so confirm the adult who will supervise the child is scheduled.
- Be ready to complete the Visitor Registration Form - You’ll be required to register with your name, address, relationship to the inmate, and the date/time of the visit.
- ✓ Plan your visit with supervision in mind: children under 18 must stay with a parent or legal guardian and cannot be left unattended.
- ✓ Use only approved routes to and from the visiting area.
- ✓ When the visit ends, head out - don’t linger on facility property.
Video visits can be easier with kids than going in person - but the same headcount rules apply. Yakima County Jail allows a maximum of two people per video session, including children. That means you'll need to choose: one adult and one child, or two adults without a child on that call.
